Hamburg Apartment

There's nothing baroque about the neo-baroque apartment of ad-man Wolfgang Behnken of Young & Rubicam, shown below. It is rather an almost miesian gallery of good design, with pieces by the Eames, Florence Knoll, Milo Baughman and Mies as well as a fantastic coffee table by George Nakashima. There are also many outstanding lamps: especially those by Serge Mouille and Christian Dell.

The apartment is mostly painted white, with few carpets and textiles, which really puts focus on the design pieces.  I suppose it does, however, require a certain type of person to live in this sort of almost barren atmosphere, but that does not change the fact that it looks stunning. Mr. Behnken also seems to have two livingrooms - perhaps one being the gentleman's room?

The kitchen and bathrooms are also very plain with their white mosaic tiles, and chairs by brit minimalist Jasper Morrison. Notice the construction-site-type lamps above the mirrors, which are actually of a quite beautiful design.

bulthaup b1

The ad campaign for german kitchen manufacturer bulthaup's b1 system sets interiors in the typical harmonious scandinavian spirit: blonde woods and white walls. Details such as a lounge group consisting only of wingback chairs makes for a great, relaxing social area.

I wonder where the campaign was shot?

Lange Production (L) Funkis

Lange Production goes the opposite way by shooting their promotional photos in what looks to be a beautiful apartment/villa in  typical Scandinavian "Funkis" (functionalist) style, which obviously goes very well with Preben Fabricius and Joergen Kastholm's furniture. This looks alot more like my apartment, though I would really like to have my windowframes in wood like in these photos. Mine are unfortunately painted white.

Three things:

*That is a beautiful glass vase in the first picture (where's it from?), and

*The candleholder in the third picture is a design by Danish funtionalist architect Mogens Lassen named "Kubus". It must be a vintage piece, because the newly produced ones from by Lassen uunfortunately only come in black or white.

*My grandfather, who owned a stone quarry, would replace the stone on the window panes in his office with granit of his choice. Looks like the same thing has been done here. I also question the originality of the stone on the fireplace. Beautifully done, anyway.
