Eating Pecan Pie Like a Stylish but Neurotic Texan

Looks like a still out of A Single Man, don' it? Or American Psycho. Whichever.
 
While on the topic of food I couldn't help but to post this picture from Wallpaper*, styled by my man Tom Ford, as well as the recipe for this southern usonian tradition.

1 cup of white Karo syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbs flour
1 cup pecans

Beat the eggs and sugar together, add flour, then syrup, vanilla and pecans.

Pour into a 9in prepared pie shell.

Bake in an oven at 150°C for one hour.

Built between 1966-1970 by Jaenecke & Samuelsson, as "Statstjänstemännens hus" ("House of Civil Servants"). This building always intrigued me. The iregularely placed windows between the bronze coloured anodised aluminum taunts me to figure out a pattern. So far without success. Today asymetry has become the cliché-decoration of choice, but it is a quite rare find in Swedish office architecture from the 60's.

The spacious and light lobby has been rebuilt into something that looks more like a janitor's closet. There used to be a full wall painting here by C.O. Hultén, made in enamel at the ceramics factory of Gustafsberg. I mailed the League of Swedish Officers, which currently uses the building, to ask if there was any possibility of seeing the piece, but with no answer.

I guess they were too busy jerking each other off, planning  picnics in exotic countries like Afghanistan,  or doing whatever the hell else the Swedish defense' been doing for the past 195 years, while hoping they still have a job to go to tomorrow (not bloody likely).

Graphic Designers' Home on Gotland

The island of Gotland might be the most beautiful place in Sweden (coming from a skåning that means alot!). The nature is unique, and for reasons unknown to me the climate there is always warmer than the rest of the country. The unspoilt nature of yellow meadows, low green bushy forests and rocky hills give you the sense of being in the bronze age. Tradiditional houses here are are either made of limestone or black tarred wood - the latter being the inspiration for famous graphic designer Henrik Nygren and his wife Susanna Nygren Barrett's (of bvd) cottage.

The black outer walls are contrasted by the very light interior with few exceptional pieces of modern design, such as the Braun Schneewittchensarg by Dieter Rams, Poul Kjaerholm PK-22 chairs and PK-61 table, a Ilmari Tapiovaara chair and a Bruno Mathsson chaise lounge wrapped in a Pia Wallén crux-blanket.

A bit too much white with stark black contrasts for me (how old is this trend?), but what the hell...
