Mad Men, anyone?

Set of four glasses with olexi/rosewood/stainless steel tray. As if stolen from the Mad Men set.

As are these lamps:

Foxy Lady

Megan Fox in Eero Saarinen's Womb-chair, shot for Rolling Stone magazine.

Råman Sees Red

The red Wegner chairs reminded me of the lovely Ingegerd Råman'sand her husband Claes' house in Skåne, by architects Claesson Koivisto Rune. And their red chairs.

The house is an old school building, a typical, traditional skånelänga.

Ingegerd is perhaps Sweden's most successful contemporary glass designer. My favourite creation of her is probably the Zvizz series for Orrefors. There is just something very intriguing with the semi-transparant surface, and the effect it creates.

I never could have imagined...

...that I would want to own a pair of red-painted Wegner chairs. But these two JH-719, first produced by cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen in 1968, are just striking in their red paint - totally original - with flagline backrest and seat, brass rivets, and canvas cushions. They seem very comfortable too - a feat too often overlooked in design furniture.

The Galleries of Hudiksvallsgatan

The art galleries on Hudiksvallsgatan are having the season's first opening today, between 17:00-20:00.

The building, Industricentralen, was created in 1937 by Ragnar Östberg.

It's really good-looking.

The only decoration to be found is the pattern in which the brick was laid. Two of the spaces here, Galerie Nordenhake and former Brändström & Stene,  were created by Erik Andersson Architects.

The Galleries:                                               Galerie Nordenhake
And an auction house:                               Bukowski's Market
The Swedish clothing brands Whyred and HOPE also have their offices here.

So come on down to this strange place and get yourself a drink.

Hotell Astoria, Trondheim

Verner Panton, 1960. The "Topan"-lamp was designed for this hotel. And like his former boss Arne Jacobsen's SAS-hotel in Copenhagen this Gesamtkunstwerk was also destroyed.

ÅHLÉNS

In both these pictures one also sees a skyscraper by Backström & Reinius, Hötorgsskrapan nummer 5, back when the facade still had a brownish hue.

Åhléns City (1964), Klarabergsvägen, Stockholm, by Sven Backström & Leif Reinius. Winner of the Kasper Salin prize 1966. 9 floors. 130 metres long, 40 metres wide. Buildt with the largest and most advanced climate control system in Sweden at the time. The influences from USA are obvious - the long wall is without windows. The ceilings are high, and the well lit "hangar"-spaces are made for effective shopping.
No advertisement was deemed needed on the facade - the building would be striking enough.

As would the plastic bags.
